Complexities of Life
We live in a physical world, measured by achievement, money, car, house and even children who achieve better result with straight As , but the disadvantage of this process is of the form of dreaded six-letter word we all know well: stress.
A survey by done by the annual Attitudes in the American Workplace VI Gallup poll, as shown at the American Institute of Stress site, found that 60 percent of workers feel stress at work. But stress does not only affect workers. Stay at home parents are also being affected, mired in endless chores.
De-tress with Food and Alcohol
Now it's easy to relax with food. Desserts (which is accentuated (stressed) in reverse) loaded with fat and sugar can give a sense of fulfillment and happiness, but if not taken in moderation can be harmful to health. Alcohol, despite its reputation for being able to drown their sorrows, contains more calories per gram than carbohydrates or protein, which means it's bad news for weight and waistline .
Health magazine online, 'Faith and Fitness' says it best: focus on eating rather than dealing with a stressful situation can turn into a vicious circle. Tension leads to poor food choices. Poor food choices lead to greater tension. Results more tension in excess of food, the emotional cycle threatens the stability and can play havoc with your personal spirituality.
In short, food, treats the symptoms of stress, but not the causes. How to manage stress is largely on how you perceive it.
Here are some of the non-food ways to download and pamper yourself so you do not run empty.
Choose To Read Favorite Book
The next time you feel stressed, choose a favorite book and plop in your favorite reading corner.
In 2009, an international investigation Mind Lab at the University of Sussex found that reading may reduce levels of stress, "66 percent better than listening to music, taking a walk or sit for a drink. Cognitive neuropsychologist Dr David Lewis found that subjects only need to read for six minutes to slow the heart rate and ease the tension in the muscles. Not only that, but their stress levels dropped lower than before the procedure begins.
This is more than just a distraction, but actively engage the imagination of the words on the printed page to stimulate creativity and lead you to be fundamentally altered state of consciousness, he said.
Pick up: Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird to understand leadership, authorship and ethics, Matilda by Roald Dahl for a walk down memory lane and Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom on what really matters in life.
Set Aside Time And Money For Chasing your Favorites Pursuit
It's easy to be swept checking accounts and monthly payments, why not try a continuation of favorites such as annual leave or a new mountain bike instead. It has often been said that experience, not hardware or material, is more useful to go through the experience leaves a lasting impression on the mind.
It does not eat into your monthly expenses, just a small part of what you can spare will be sufficient. Once you've collected enough, go on holiday for example, to recharge. You will return home and to work happier and more productive. Holidays should not be exotic or expensive. Choose something that fits your budget (by the way, heavy credit card account from a holiday only adds to the stress) and time.
Pick up: A good camera can be use as a document for your journey. Otherwise, postcards can play a part as a good reminder of the experience.
Sleep
It's unanimous, we are not getting enough sleep! Of course, some get by with only five hours of sleep, but nothing beats the feeling of waking up after eight hours of rest. You will feel healthier, happier and lighter.
The website of Natural stress Relief points out that adults, as it needs eight hours of sleep, children need 10 to 13 and infants 16-20 hours. The body repairs itself during sleep hours and ensures that adequate long enough attention to the body to do so.
Having enough sleep, apparently, can help you stay slim too.
New York University School of Medicine Associate Professor Dr. David Rapoport, quoted in webmd.com says hormones leptin and ghrelin influence the appetite and their studies show that production of the two can be influenced by how much or how little sleep we have.
Pick-up: A cup of chamomile tea before bedtime. Light stretching and maintain a sleep routine also helps you sleep better.
Watch Your Favorite Film
Leave a stressful day in front of telly and watch a favorite comedy. Laughter, after all, it releases endorphins that make us happy. And if you want to escape, temporarily at least from a stressful environment, the choice of films, no TV because the commercials will constantly remind you of events in the world.
Personally, I like comics and animation, are great stress relievers, because they make me laugh. Romantic comedies and movies that do not require a lot of thought to work with.
Pick-up: Showshank Redemption for a clean, guy flick, Toy Story 3 on how human toys can be, and Monster Inc for a funny tale of friendship and affection.
Take a day off
When you are absent from this months vacation schedule or plan, but the feeling that you've reached the wall, pull the brakes and have a day off. Talk to your spouse/partner about it, get a babysitter to care for the children and have time for yourself.
You might want to spend some time alone, a massage, manicure, pedicure or a sister or best friend. In any case, for that short break allows you some room to breathe as you get home recharged.
Remember the oxygen mask, the airline gave the reminder in the event of the cabin pressure drops, you must put your mask before you tend to those in your care? The same principle applies in life. If you do not look after your well-being first, you will not be able to look after the welfare of others.
Pick-up: A long, warm shower, complete with body scrub or facial mask, if you only have a few hours.
Keep A Pet
Studies show that owning a pet can reduce stress levels of its owner. University of Texas School of Public Health, Professor of Psychology Dr. Blair Justice said that when people are stressed, chemicals such as cortisol and norepinephrine are released and can adversely affect the immune system.
Like any activity more fun, playing with a dog can increase levels of serotonin and dopamine, which are neural transmitters are known to have a pleasant and relaxing properties, he tells WebMD.
According medicinenet.com, a study were been done with stockbrokers who adopted a cat or dog had lower blood pressure readings in stressful situations than people without pets. People can take drugs to boost levels of serotonin and dopamine in their body, but the healthy way is to stroke your dog, hug your spouse, watch sunsets, or be around something beautiful in nature, Blair suggests.
Pick up: Strays or animals from the shelter instead of buying from a pet store. It is inexpensive and will save an animal.
Accept Things For What They Are
Perhaps the most valuable and indulgences is a change of attitude and awareness that there are many things we can not control. We can not control people's behavior, but we can control our perceptions and reactions.
Not many of us a fan of self-help books, but the cliché is a cliché because it is true. The only way to reduce stress is to accept things for what they are, and do not sweat the small stuff, such as self-help guru Anthony Robbins would say.
Once you stop trying to control what you can not, you will be able to live a less stressful life.
Pick-up: A wise saying or proverb, when things get tough, hold on to it. For example, and this too shall pass which was said to be from Sufi poets and made popular by Eckhart Tolle in his book, a New Earth.
